There cannot be a more uplifting experience than waking up in the morning to a clear blue sky. Whether that blue is against the arctic whites, the desert golds, or any type of greenery it is beautiful. It is the colour of the chakra relating to the throat area and the thyroid gland, its general theme is relaxation making it a very good colour for restless people. The complementary colour is orange and they really are good complementaries as the liveliness of orange is calmed by relaxing blue. The throat chakra is about expressing ourselves and our personal truths, and having the courage to stand up and communicate with those around us. Within that concept it is important to understand the information being given, it is no good to be just repetitive; constructive discussion can be very healing. I found a good quote today by Kenneth Gamble in the Smithsonian magazine, referring to the type of songs known as “the Blues.” It said “Those songs turned out to be anthems. We were talking about our feelings, but evidently they were the feelings of millions of people all over the world.”
Too much blue can feel cold and attract meloncholy and depression, nevertheless it is strongly associated with teaching, service to others and healing. As stated in ‘The Healing Energies of Colour’ with regard to temperament and the aura, the natural daily experiences, coupled with the general ageing process produce corresponding differences in the colours showing. Rudolph Steiner (1861-1925) described the four types of temperament in the same way as Hippocrates (c460-c377BC) and blue was the colour designated to the melancholic type, who would be a stickler for attention to detail but prone to sadness. The element for blue is water.
The darker shades of blue convey a sense of trust which is probably why they are popular for uniforms and institutions that want to be perceived as honest and trustworthy. People involved in any type of healing are likely to have a lot of blue showing in their aura; as are teachers and those who have gained plenty of wisdom throughout their years and are ready to share that with others.
The death of a spiritualist friend recently brought to light a little book called ‘The Blue Island,’ it was produced in 1922 and is now out of print. The words have been channelled by a medium called Pardoe Woodman from a gentleman called W.T.Stead. in the manner of automatic writing. What is fascinating about this book is the fact that W.T.Stead died when the Titanic sunk in April 1912 and he describes the scenes when it happened. He also gave information relating to the 1914-1918 war. He talks of being in a place that has a beautiful blue atmosphere, where people are brought to heal, and that is why the book has its name; but what is also of interest is the letter at the beginning from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, stating that although he had no experience of the said blue island he recognised the manner in which W.T.Stead wrote ( he was a well educated, articulate man). I don’t think it matters whether or not the reader believes in an afterlife it is a charming little piece of history.
I have to say that it is a sad fact that when anyone says the word BLUE to me I immediately think of the boy band. Thank you again to all those who send me comments, I try and reply and visit your sites where I can.
